Much like other islands, Puerto Rico faces unique challenges with providing continuous energy via traditional sources. However, solar energy, paired with storage, is quickly filling the gaps. Solar Power Puerto Rico will explore how the role of solar fits into the island’s long-term reliability and resilience plans.
Puerto Rico Stats
- As of June 2017, Puerto Rico had 127 megawatts of utility-scale solar photovoltaic generating capacity and 88 megawatts of distributed (customer-sited, small-scale) capacity.
- In the first six months of 2017, more electricity came from solar energy than any other renewable source.
