International Coffee Day Highlights Inequality in the Industry

Every year on October 1st, International Coffee Day takes place. The Holiday recognizes the millions of people who work in the industry throughout the world. The aim for international coffee day is to shine a spotlight on the millions of farmers who are the most vulnerable. Coffee is one of the largest imports in the world and is currently growing. 3 Billion cups of coffee are consumed each day globally.

While the industry grows, many coffee farmers continue to live in poverty. Pushes for fair trade and direct trade have helped the problem but there is still more work to do to ensure the coffee industry works better for everyone involved. Here’s how you can help.
