The Illinois Sustainable Agriculture Partnership hosted the first two webinars of a series last week. “Farming for the Future: Ecosystem Market Summer Series” is a free online event for Midwest farmers, and for those interested in farming practices that best suit the Midwest.
On June 22nd, representatives from Bayer, Corteva, and Nutrien gave presentations on carbon-offset practices such as planting cover crops, and what incentives are available for farmers that participate in reducing their carbon footprint. These companies can also help farmers apply for subsidies and assistance from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, an agency of the USDA.
On June 24th, representatives from CIBO, Gradable by Farmers Business Network, and Land O’ Lakes presented on data management platforms that allow farmers to better track carbon outcomes. Some platforms also offer incentives for sharing data, so that companies can keep track of the most effective methods.
In two weeks, the event will continue with presentations from Cargill, General Mills, and PepsiCo on current market opportunities. Then, the final webinar will feature information about water quality and additional ways for farmers to earn money sustainably.
Recordings of both of the webinars from last week are available for free on the Illinois Sustainable Agriculture Partnership website, as well as registration for the rest of the event.
